CONTROLS:

[MOUSE]: Move the cursor's arrow over a location or special item to view it's name.
You can also use the mouse to select different weapons while on the map screen.

[L-CLICK]: Enter an area, Buy an item (if you have enough coins), or equip a weapon.

[ARROW KEYS]: Move the Captain around while in a battle level.

[SPACE BAR]: Attack in the direction you're facing with the weapon you have equipped.

[ENTER KEY]: Show / Hide the status screen while on the map screen.
Show the mini-status screen while in a battle level. The status screen will
hide itself again if you perform any action so it won't block your view.

[Q KEY]: Quick Exit. Useful when you're at work or your wife doesn't want you playing!

STATS:

Life: The Captain's Life force. It starts at 16, and you'll get extra random maximum life
with every level you gain. If you are hurt, you will have a small time where you'll
be temporarily invincible. Use this time to get out of the monster's way!

Experience Points: Kill enemies or collect special items to gain these points. When you've
amassed enough, you'll gain another level and your powers increase.

Level: A general number representing your overall power. The Captain begins at level 1.

Attack Power: Your physical strength plus your weapon. This shows how much damage you
can do to your enemies! You gain +1 ATK every level.

Defense Power: Your ability to absorb enemy damage. You'll gain +1 DEF every level, but
you start with NO defense at all!

Attack Speed: This represents how fast you can swing your currently held weapon. The lower
the number, the faster you can attack with your weapon.

Gold Coins: These are the currency of the kingdom. Smash barrels and chests to get coins,
but you can also get a lot from defeating enemies too! If you see a gold bag, it's
       worth a whopping 50 coins!

 NEW as of 1/12/06!

I added a small stun time for enemies when they're hit by you to make the game a bit
easier (and ultimately this is what I should have done before!)

Different weapon types stun enemies differently like so:

Weapon Type: Stun Length:
============    ============
Swords 2
Axes 3
Maces 2
Hammers 4

This really helps in battle, good luck!

MONSTER LOG:

The game also keeps a record of which and how many enemies you've defeated during your game.
Their stats and picture will appear if you click on their name. This can be accessed through
the map screen by pressing the 'ENEMY' button.

Monster's Stats Shown:

Heart (Life)- It's maximum health uninjured.
Star (Experience Reward)- How many experience points you get from killing one.
Skull (Kills)- This is how many of this type of enemy you've killed so far. Boss enemies
will only show up once, and the title "BOSS" will appear above their picture.
Sword (Damage via Melee)- The enemy's attack power if it hits you via touch.
Shield (Defense)- The enemy's defensive rating against your weapons.
Arrow (Damage via Projectile)- If the enemy has a special attack (like a spell),
this is the attack damage rating against your armor.
This includes any thrown weapons too.

Captain + Tombstone- This shows how many times these monsters have killed you.

DEATH AND GAME OVER:

If your life is reduced to zero, you are dead. However, before they bury you in the
graveyard, you can opt to continue and come back to life. The cost is half of your earned
coins, but the good news is that your experience points, weapons and items earned, and
enemy kill stats will all remain intact. You have 10 seconds to choose, if you don't want
to continue, the game will restart and you can always LOAD your old game back up again.

DID YOU KNOW?

Dave also does the voice for the Captain, neat-o!

DXF Games member Garror came up with Garror's unarmored sprite. Grats Garror!

There are some unlockable levels that are hidden from you unless you do certain things..

This game is actually pretty hard, but if you stick with it there is a lot to offer.
